Afrikaner-”sagtemag” in die Lae Lande

Ek sit hier in die Eurostar-sneltrein van Brussel na Londen en het nou vir die eerste keer weer tyd om oor die PRAAG-toer deur Europa te berig. Ons besoek het eintlik al my verwagtinge oortref, want ná ons vriendelike ontvangs in Swede, het ‘n mens byna oorstelp gevoel met die gasvryheid en meegevoel van die Lae Lande, sowel Nederland as Vlaandere.

Oor die eeue vandat Jan van Riebeeck in die Kaap aangekom het, het ons verhouding met die Lae Lande hoogtepunte en laagtepunte beleef. ‘n Onlangse laagtepunt was die kulturele boikot deur Nederland in die sewentiger- en tagtigjare, maar wat nie deur Vlaandere gevolg is nie.

Kort ná ons aankoms in Brussel het ek na Antwerpen vertrek vir ‘n ete aan huis van die Vlaams Belang se leier, Filip de Winter. Ek en ‘n ander groot vriend van die Afrikaners, Jared Taylor van American Renaissance, is saam deur Annick Deneve, die Vlaams Belang-leier se sekretaresse, in Brussel opgelaai en daarna na Antwerpen geneem. In die motor gesels ek en Jared land en sand oor Suid-Afrika, asook sekere raakpunte tussen ons en die Amerikaanse Suide.

Benewens die volksmoord op Afrikaners, is selfbeskikking die ander hooftema van hierdie toer. Net soos die Afrikaners met hul vele pogings tot onafhanklikheid, soos Stellaland en Goosen, asook die Boererepublieke, het die Suidelike Amerikaners telkens selfregering nagestreef, eerst teen die Britte en toe teen die Yankees, maar tydens die Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog is hulle unatuurlik finaal deur Noorde verower, net soos ons deur die Britte in 1902 verower is. Ook die ses miljoen Vlaminge, die Nederlandssprekende volk in België, is besig met hul eie demokratiese vryheidstryd om onafhanklikheid en selfbeskikking te verkry. By die partykongres van die Vlaams Belang verlede Sondag het die volgepakte saal dikwels uitgeroep: “België barst!”, met ander woorde, dat die Belgiese staat besig is om tot niet te gaan en dat Vlaandere uiteindelik volle onafhanklikheid en ‘n staat sal verkry.

‘n Mens eet heerlik in België en die dinee by De Winter is uit die boonste rakke, met ‘n gehuurde sjef wat allerlei geregte vanuit De Winter se kombuis optoewer, vyf of ses gange as ‘n mens die kaas ná die hoofgereg insluit.

Eintlik is dit ‘n fondsinsamelingsdinee en die twintigtal mense bestaan meesal uit Antwerpse sakemanne wat die Vlaams Belang finansieel ondersteun. Aan tafel praat ek Afrikaans en al die Vlaminge volg my gemaklik. Ttrouens, ‘n gewaarwording wat al hoe sterker by my inslag gevind het, is dat ons taal, Afrikaans, ‘n mens eintlik toegang tot die hele Noord-Europa gee. Die Lae Lande, natuurlik, waar ons geredelik verstaan word, maar ook Duitsland, Switserland en die Skandinawiese lande waar ons met geringe moeite daardie tale kan aanleer, danksy ons taal se ooreenkomste wat woordeskat, sintaksis en selfs uitspraak betref.

Ek dink nie die meeste Afrikaners besef in watter mate ons Afrikaanse kultuur, soos ons volksliedjies en letterkunde, eintlik deel vorm van byvoorbeeld die Vlaamse kultuur nie. Op skool leer die meeste Vlaminge ons volksliedjies en kry ook blootstelling aan die Afrikaanse poësie. Een van die dames aan my tafel verduidelik hoe sy vir ‘n vriendin ‘n mooi gedig oor moederskap moes voordra en niks gepas in Nederlands kon vind nie. Daarna het sy op ‘n gedig van Elisabeth Eybers afgekom en dit het groot byval gevind.

Die aantreklikheid van Afrikanerkultuur vir sowel die Vlaminge as die Hollanders verteenwoordig ‘n soort “sagte mag” wat ons steeds uitstraal, in weerwil van ons huidige staatloosheid en oorheersing deur die ANC se swart rassiste. Hunington het mos gepraat van “harde en sagte mag” en het Amerika se popkultuur van Hollywood, Coca-Cola, McDonald en Levi-denims as deel van die land se “sagte mag” getipeer.

Twee dae ná die dinee by De Winter, sit ek in die Schiller-kafee op die Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam en vra ‘n Nederlandse joernalis van die koerant “De Pers” die vraag aan my: “Hoe sou jy die Afrikanerkultuur beskryf?” In 2006 het ek by die American Renaissance-kongres in Washington die frase, “Beethoven in die Bosveld” gebruik en ek herhaal dit teenoor hom. Dis nie dat alle Afrikaners Beethoven op die klavier of die viool speel nie, maar daardie kombinasie van Hoog-Europese gekultiveerdheid, geletterheid en finesse met die viriele jag- en pionierskultuur, is wat die Afrikaner ‘n unieke wese op hierdie planeet maak.

Meer oor ons besoek aan Amsterdam egter later. Ná die gesprek oor Elisabeth Eybers en die voortreflikheid van die Afrikaanse poësie met die welgeklede, welvarende Vlaminge aan tafel, versoek De Winter vir my en Jared Taylor om elkeen ‘n kort toespraak iewers tussen die hoofgereg en die kaas te maak, hy in Engels, ek in Afrikaans. In my kort praatjie verwys ek na ons swaarkry onder die juk van die ANC, maar ook na ons gemeenskaplike vryheidstryd om onafhanklikheid en vryheid te verkry. Ten slotte kwoteer ek die bekende woorde van I.D. du Plessis:

“Nee, soet is die stryd vir die stryder,

Al moet hy uiteindelik verloor;

Maar die man wat sy deelname weier,

Is die man wat sy nasie vermoor.

Die Vlaminge klap warm hande vir my enkele onvoorbereide woorde. Iemand komplimenteer my later selfs op my “grandiose toespraak”. In sy Engelse toespraak meen Jared Taylor dat hy my beny dat ek in ‘n taal wat so naby aan dié van die Vlaminge is myself verstaanbaar kon maak. Volgens hom stry ons almal, PRAAG, American Renaissance en die Vlaams Belang, dieselfde stryd ten behoud van die Westerse beskawing. Hoewel die proses van aftakeling by ons in ‘n veel meer gevorderde stadium verkeer, is ons problematiek van kultuurbotsing, asook rasse- en etniese verskille, deesdae die universele kwessies van die hele Westerse wêreld, insgelyks hier in Europa. Dus het ons waarskynlik vir die eerste keer in meer as ‘n eeu die kans om nie net onsself aan die buitewêreld verstaanbaar te maak nie, maar ook op gelyke voet deel te neem aan die Europese politieke en filosofiese gesprek.

Ek sal oor die volgende paar dae nog verder berig oor ons ontvangs in Nederland, asook by die kongres van die Vlaams Belang in Antwerpen en ons kuier by die jong Afrikaneraktiviste in Londen wat die betoging voor die SA ambassade op Trafalgarplein georganiseer het.

Wat PRAAG binnekort gaan bereik, is om ‘n wêreldwye versetnetwerk te vestig wat die destydse anti-apartheidsbeweging na amateurs gaan laat lyk. Daar gaan gereelde betogings voor SA ambassades wees, skakeling met media en besluitnemers in die meeste Europese lande en selfs internasionale organisasies, alles met die uitsluitlike doel om vir ons mense outonomie en grondgebied in Suid-Afrika te verkry waar ons vry van die ANC-juk kan leef.

An open letter

Dear Mr. Imm,

You probably know as little about me as I do about you, living on different sides of the planet. However, I was one of the invited speakers to the American Renaissance conference that had to be cancelled after you and other left-wing groups had harassed the hotels concerned.

I was practically on my way to the airport for the 19-hour flight from Johannesburg when I had received Jared Taylor’s e-mail informing me that the conference had finally been cancelled, with the Capitol Skyline Hotel also succumbing to pressure from yourselves.

As an Afrikaner from South Africa, I am totally astonished at your behaviour and that you even seem to boast about having prevented the biannual AR “conversation about race” from taking place. Did your own president, Barack Obama, not call for a “conversation about race” shortly after taking office?

Americans are privileged to live in a country with a Constitution guaranteeing freedom of speech by means of the first amendement. Why would you want to undermine that principle by threatening hotels in Washington with boycotts, “shaming” and even death threats?

On your website you state your opposition to “fundamentalism” as presumably practised by some Muslims. However, what about race fundamentalism?

Your opposition to any rational debate on race reminds me of the Spanish Inquisition or Stalin’s Russia, where only one set of ideas could be publicly or even privately expressed. Your intolerant, left-fascist attitude affects not only the free discussion of political ideas, but also science, morality, history and international relations. If it were to bebome universal, humanity would go back to the Dark Ages where anyone voicing dissent from opinions held by the masses or the mass media would be persecuted.

Given the global clout and influence of the United States as the sole remaining superpower, you have a special responsibility toward the rest of us living in other parts of the world where we, too, grapple with severe racial problems. Again, if your scare tactics and intellectual terrorism had to become the norm, the USA would quickly assume the status of a new Soviet Union, not only oppressing its own citizens, but exporting its myopia and intolerance world-wide.

Already my country, South Africa, is suffering under a disastrous experiment in social engineering, based precisely on American so-called liberal ideas, but which are the antithesis of liberality and classical liberalism. Radical affirmative action, the exclusion of whites on racial grounds, as well as racially motivated attacks on whites are the stuff of everyday life in South Africa. Stop any white South African in the street. He or she will tell you.

On 20 December 2006 a pretty, blonde-haired little girl was shot just for the hell of it by two blacks in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg. Danielle Esterhuizen was only five years old, sitting on her mother’s lap. On 23 February 2009 a 16-year Bernadette Kruger was deliberatly run down and killed by a black taxi driver on her scooter, while on her way to school, again simply because she happened to be white and to be defenseless. Blacks study for free at university while whites have to pay. In November last year, the Supreme Court of Appeal, the highest judicial tribunal in South Africa, delivered a stinging judgement against the Pretoria municipality that had refused to appoint qualified white electrical engineers and high-voltage electricians, even when no qualified blacks could be found. In their racial zeal, not only did they endanger the economy of the capital, but they also placed the lives of the public at risk as at least one sub-station had exploded due to lack of maintenance.

Your website domain where you exhort readers to curtail Jared Taylor and American Renaissance’s freedom of speech, is is situated at realcourage.org. How amusing, how Orwellian!

For you precisely lack courage to confront lies and expose myths. Especially the infantile lies and myths about race, your race fundamentalism. If you had had any intention of, as you state on your website, support(ing)… our universal human rights in all parts of the world”, you would not have engaged in vindictive posturing about a gathering of decent, well-behaved race realists in Washington, but you would have taken up the cause of the white South Africans or the white Zimbabweans, ethnically cleansed from their country by Robert Mugabe!

You claim to be “defying racial supremacism”. But what about black racial supremacism as institutionalised in Southern Africa? Would you also have “real courage” to defy that brand of racial supremacism?

I may be mistaken, but I doubt it very much. Your bag of well-worn clichés about white racism might still work when you shout “Boo!” at a few timorous hotel managers, but in the real world, especially outside your own suburb, it is as redundant as Karl Marx’s writings on economic equality.

If I think about the fact that you literally prevented me and the others to speak at the American Renaissance conference, it is obvious that you are already far advanced in imposing a type of Soviet closure of the mind on the capital of the USA. Paradoxically, our anti-white racist, black, quasi-Marxist government in South Africa offers me far more freedom of speech in South Africa than you could provide me with as a guest in your country, notwithstanding the First Amendment. Over here I regularly speak my mind in the press, on the internet and even on the state-owned radio and television stations.

Does that not trigger an alarm bell somewhere, that South Africa’s black government who used to be terrorists, bombing supermarkets and restaurants – they also call each other “comrade” by the way – could offer one greater freedom of speech than the, oh so white, “equality activists” of Washington?
